The Department of Prakrit and Jain Studies was established 2022 with the objective of promoting the academic study of Prakrit languages, Jain philosophy, Agamic literature, and Indian knowledge traditions in accordance with UGC guidelines. The Department offers two full-time degree programmes: a three-year Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Prakrit and Jain Studies and a two-year Master of Arts (M.A.) in Prakrit and Jain Studies. Both programmes are designed to provide a strong foundation in Jainism, Prakrit languages, Jain Agamas, philosophy, ethics, history, culture, and comparative religious studies. The curriculum emphasizes classical textual study along with critical analysis, research methodology, and contemporary relevance of Jain thought. The programmes are taught by experienced and well-qualified faculty members with proven expertise in Prakrit language, Jain studies. The Department also supports academic and research-oriented learning through access to a well-equipped and updated library, manuscript studies, seminars, workshops, guest lectures by eminent scholars, and guidance for higher studies and research including Ph.D. programmes. The overall academic environment nurtures ethical values, intellectual discipline, and a deep understanding of India’s rich philosophical heritage.
